Hurray! I just got a full-tuition scholarship to USU, though it doesn't cover living expenses, books or student fees, it still guarantees over $7,000.00 for tuition as long as I keep my GPA at 3.5 for the next two years.

Considering that I keep getting all these rejection letters or just copies of my portfolios with no explanation sent back to me, I'm feeling pretty good about getting this scholarship.

Essentially this will keep my debt under 20k for my bachelors if I choose this scholarship (I'm waiting to hear back from three other committees).. with luck and lots of applications I'll be able to keep it under 10k. I know that fundamentally deep-down inside I should really not fret over the expenses it takes to establish my education (one of the few things that no one will ever be able to take away from me), but the job market isn't exactly gushing for academia.

I know it takes a penny or two to support someone through years of going to lectures, studying and having little to no time for a part-time job let-alone life itself. But then again there are the people that go waaaaaaaay overboard on their loans and really don't get the concept of "having to pay them back". Like one of my good friends who has been going to a university in Missouri for approximately two years and has somehow managed to wrack up 50k in debt for a degree in fine arts without having a real emergency occur..

Awkward.

.. hmm.. Maybe I'll just focus on my academic lifetime goal of writing "What the HELL Happened?!: the Transition of America from Political Isolationism to the Republican Empire" to pay for my education.

Hey, if I make it controversial enough and extremely volatile, somebody is going to be offended and that'll spread to create an empire of haters that only support my royalties through their flaming..

Haha.. right. God Bless America.

Before your write your tome, you better read Power, Faith, & Fantasy by Michael Oren. We've never really been all that isolationist, and there's ALWAYS been a tension between that and our desire to establish our power.

P.S. congratulations on getting the scholarship!! It really is a significant achievement of which you should be proud. (Remeber, it's not undergraduate tuition that kills you; it's graduate school).
